Latino Ministry at Bethlehem

The Latino Ministry at Bethlehem began a year and a half ago when Luis Méndez, a pastor from the Dominican Republic, moved to Minneapolis to receive theological training at The Bethlehem Institute (TBI). God put the desire in Luis' heart to help stir Bethlehem to take our passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples and apply it with a special vision for reaching the Latino community around us.

Luis has been designing and developing this vision together with the pastoral staff, and as a result the Latino Ministry has been formed. With God's blessing , we have seen this ministry grow and give birth to a core group of people who have a passion for seeing Christ exalted among Latinos in our church and in the surrounding community.

This past year and a half we have focused on our efforts primarily on building a strong foundation for this relatively new ministry. We have met as a group each Sunday morning for Sunday School, studying one of Pastor John's book in Spanish. We have also met as a Latino Small Group twice a month for prayer and fellowship. It has been a blessing to get to know one another and grow in the knowledge of our common Lord.

As we look to future, we are trusting God to use the foundation He has built as a launching pad for outreach ministry into our community. Please pray for this ministry as we seek to share the compassion of Christ and the power of the gospel with the more than 150,000 Latinos who live in Minneapolis.

El ministerio latino de Bethlehem empezó hace un año y medio cuando Luis Méndez, un pastor de la República Dominicana, se mudó a Minneapolis para recibir un mayor entrenamiento teológico en nuestra academia ministerial (TBI) . Dios puso en el corazón de Luis impulsar a Bethlehem a enfocar nuestra pasión por la Supremacía de Dios en todas las cosas para el gozo de todas las naciones en una visión particular hacia los Latinos en nuestra comunidad.

Luis ha estado elaborando y diseñando esa visión junto al staff de pastores de la iglesia, y como fruto de esta visión se ha conformado nuestro Ministerio Latino. Con la bendición de Dios hemos visto el ministerio crecer y dar a luz un grupo de personas que tiene pasión por ver a Cristo exaltado entre los latinos en nuestra iglesia y la comunidad alrededor.

El año pasado hemos enfocado mayormente nuestros esfuerzos en construir un fuerte fundamento para este nuevo ministerio. Nos hemos reunido cada domingo en la mañana en la escuela dominical, estudiando uno de los libros del Pastor John Piper. También nos hemos reunido como un "small group" dos veces al mes para orar y compartir juntos. Ha sido una gran bendición conocernos más y crecer juntos en el conocimiento de nuestro común Señor!

En lo adelante, confiamos en Dios para usar el fundamento que Él ha construido y transformarlo en una plataforma de lanzamiento para alcanzar nuestra comunidad. Favor de orar por este ministerio mientras compartimos la compasión de Cristo y el poder del evangelio con los 150,000 latinos en Minneapolis.
